The best invention since the wheel!

Reviews: Fiskars 7854 X25 28-Inch Splitting Axe

Ok. I'm just as regular guy from the suburbs. A few years ago I had a number of trees cut down. I went and bought an 8 lb maul at The Home Depot. After several weeks I had split maybe 10 rounds. It was back breaking work. I ended up having all the rest of the wood picked up by the town. Since then I bought a wood stove insert and started becoming a 'wood scavenger'.

Hands down best splitting axe

Reviews: Fiskars 7884 X27 36-Inch Super Splitting Axe

This is the best splitting axe I've ever come across. If you are splitting 18" rounds under 14", it will do the job on the first strike. However, if you are splitting longer and wider logs, it may take a few more depending on the number of knots and so forth. However, it will still split in fewer strikes that any other axe I've seen. Not only that, the design of this axe head prevents if from being lodged in the wood, so you don't have to fight to get it out of the wood, which is another big time plus.

Impressed

Reviews: Fiskars 7854 X25 28-Inch Splitting Axe

So I was skeptical about purchasing this axe after splitting by hand with a 15lb mega maul for the past several years I was not sure if this one could stack up. I assumed it would be nice to have this around for smaller, straight grained pieces where the 15lb maul would be overkill but surely a puny 4.5lb splitting axe could get the job done. I was proved wrong the first night I used the axe - it really is quite amazing how well this works.

Superb. Like a hot knife through butter!!

Reviews: Fiskars 7884 X27 36-Inch Super Splitting Axe

Like most of you who are reading this review,I started researching this splitting axe/maul on the net and came across various forums from around the world. The X27 seemed to be mentioned as the tool to buy. The cost seem to vary depending on your home country.A little bit more digging brought me to Amazon and even with the pre-paid import duty and shipping, the Fiskars X27 came to the grand total of £52.50, delivered to my door.I could have paid this price for an inferior product with a wooden shaft and a pointed lump of metal on the end ( a friend of mine did!!)

Efficient & More Safe Design

Reviews: Fiskars 7854 X25 28-Inch Splitting Axe

Perhaps, not for everyone, this molded handle and head design prevent busting a wooden handle, if you miss.
The 4.5lb. head is enough to let the head do the work. I use it split the log pile and it didn't take long to feel confident about the splitter. For me, selecting a splitter is like choosing a baseball bat, a golf club or a surf rod; first, it should fit you.

Top notch quality and well designed

Reviews: Fiskars 7884 X27 36-Inch Super Splitting Axe

Superb axe if I might say so myself! Being so lightweight, I can split two or three times the amount of wood with this tool, that I could with my 8lb maul. The key with using this axe is to swing it with speed, whereas my maul requires muscle to get the job done. I've found that if I hit it right (speed and accuracy), it will split most anything I put before it. I've found that if I can't split it with this axe, there's a good chance that I won't get it with my 8lb maul either, and will have to bring out the wedges. I think that says it all! This is one WELL designed axe that is virtually unbreakable (mine has endured some brutal overstrikes with no damage whatsoever).

Best firewood tool

Reviews: Fiskars 7854 X25 28-Inch Splitting Axe

I've been doing firewood my entire life and have been swinging an ax for close to 30 years of it. When I saw all the reviews here I didn't believe they could be accurate, but had to give it a try. I'm glad I did because this ax is amazing. It splits easier and faster than any other ax or maul I've used. Its less than half the weight of my previously favorite splitting maul and does twice the work.
