This was the easiest splitting I've ever done. Splits wood like butter and puts my old maul to shame. The technique is a bit different because you're not relying on weight to split the wood, you're relying on a sharp axe. That took a little getting used to, moving from a full bore hard as you can swing to a well aimed one. But aside from that its much easier. I've actually used it one handed to split already splitted logs into fatwood sized pieces for starting a fire. Works every time. By Wisemac: I just finished chopping a cord of very green Ash wood. I had no problem. Most of my strikes were one-hit splits! Very satisfying. During the course of chopping a cord of wood, several times I had over-struck and plowed the handle into the wood and the handle never broker or showed any signs of damage! I was also surprised at how light the axe was and yet how well it split the wood. By dad4: This fiskars splitting maul works great on seasoned wood. I have split many oak pieces and it works well. Did try some other kinds of trees for campfire wood and didn't get same results.
