awesome tool

Reviews: Fiskars 7854 X25 28-Inch Splitting Axe

The long handled Fiskars Splitting Axe does a great job splitting straight grained, wet/dry hard/soft wood, assuming its not spongy. With other types, it will require more work to accomplish the same feat of quickly splitting various sizes/types of wood. I wouldn't go back to using a splitting maul unless I've got to split a huge, knotty piece of wood I can't split with the Fiskars Axe. And if that's the case, I'll fire up the diesel tractor and make use of the home made 20 year old wood splitter. With the right work flow, I'm convinced I can split more wood with the Fiskars Axe than I can the beast of wood splitter we have.

For an investment of less than $80 I have an awesome, reliable and well built tool to supply the entire winter's worth of heat for the home. The factory edge is incredibly sharp and the slick coating does a fine job of reducing resistance you would find on most other, traditional tools that make less use of the same kinetic energy to accomplish what is mostly, in today's world, a nostalgic trip. I am a very satisfied customer. Highly recommended.

Pro's:
- Listed Above
- Incredible durable handle under cold weather conditions (yet to be fully field tested/confirmed)
Con's:
- First swing likely to lop off a toe or split your foot in half
- Factory edge may require touching up pending how often one buries the Axe into the ground
- Special coating that reduces resistance may wear off with time. Not certain how best to be reapplied
